Cascais Vegetable Gardens
Created in 2010 by the Agenda Cascais 21 Department of the Câmara Municipal de Cascais (Municipal Council of Cascais), in partnership with Associação Criativa (Creative Association), the objectives of the project are:
- Promote local sustainable agriculture and also healthy eating;
- Implement innovative green spaces that respond to the real needs of the population;
- Encourage the socio-cultural potential inherent to the horticultural activity;
- Strengthen contact of residents with nature;
- Boost biodiversity and the ecological structure of the municipality;
In order to achieve the objectives set, the programme is developed based on two components: Community Vegetable Gardens and Vegetable Gardens at Home.
The head office of Hortas de Cascais (Cascais Vegetable Gardens) programme is located at the Community Vegetable Garden in Bairro de S. João da Rebelva. It is a space dedicated to training and the transfer of knowledge. The facilities of the building include a training room with a capacity for 35 people, a kitchen where you can prepare contents related to healthy eating, and the required support spaces. The head office has 250 square meters of land where practical training will be carried out. In this space you can find the practical exemplification of what a sustainable garden is.
