For how long have you known the beaches of Cascais? How where they back then? Participate in the online survey that is being developed by Mafalda Carapuço, PhD student of the Institute Dom Luiz, Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon, aiming to identify the perception of those living and visiting Cascais about the evolution of the beaches in this municipality.
With this study the researcher Mafalda Carapuço is collecting public testimonies in the framework of the exhibition "Cascais beaches: yesterday and today", scheduled to perform at the Paredão de Cascais in the beginning of June.
Joint venture of the Municipality of Cascais and the Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon, with the support of the Portuguese Environment Agency, the exhibition “The Beaches of Cascais: past and present” aims to illustrate the evolution of the beaches of this municipality over the last 100 years, through the comparison of photographs from the early to mid 20th century with recent ones.
Being the portuguese coastal zone a place of memories, this exhibition also intends to raise awareness about the importance of the knowledge on beach dynamics in coastal management and planning, allowing for future generations to have the same possibility to have a place to build their memories upon.
