The network of Cascais municipal museums currently comprises a set of museum units and interpretive centres, whose different themes go beyond the representation of the territory and the historical municipal heritage through the presentation of collections ranging from the history of art and decorative arts, to natural history, terrestrial and underwater archaeology, marine ethnology, Portuguese music, to military history and science and technology.

The accreditation and integration of the Museu-Biblioteca Condes de Castro Guimarães (Condes de Castro Guimarães Museum-Library), Museu do Mar - Rei D. Carlos (Museum of the Sea - King Carlos) and Museu da Música Portuguesa (Museum of Portuguese Music) - Casa Verdades de Faria in the RPM (Portuguese Museum Network) in 2011 were given great importance as, according to the article no. 110 of the Framework Law of the Portuguese Museums (Law no. 47/2004 of the 19th of August), they give a positive note in the evaluation and official recognition of the technical quality of these museums.

In addition to the renovation of expository routes and informative materials in these three museums, in recent years a major investment has also been made in the areas of inventory, study and publication of results on the collections, buildings and contents aimed at children and youths. Therefore, and despite the outward recognition obtained by the action developed until now, we continue to work towards the optimisation of the museum units as well as the quality and diversification of the activities offered to the different audiences.
