In 2006, Paula Rego chose Cascais as the place to build “her” House of Stories, a museum designed by the architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, where a significant number of her works are exhibited, as well as of her late husband’s, Victor Willing, who passed away in 1988. The Paula Rego House of Stories is a place that is “fun, unpretentious, lively, full of joy and a lot of mischief” and has as its mission to let the public know and enjoy Paula Rego’s work and her artistic connections. It has about 750m2 of permanent and temporary exhibition areas, coffee shop, gift shop, bookshop and an auditorium with the capacity for 200 seats.
